When it comes to reading new authors and/or debut novels, I often go in blind. I don’t want to read the synopsis or what others have had to say because I want to take it in all on my own.

The back story reminded me of a story ripped from the news headlines. Lexi’s journey to the point where we meet her was terrifying and heartbreaking for me. I could not imagine the things Lexi, her brother, and mother endured. The reader does learn some of what happened to her and her family as she slowly unveils her past to Lucca.

What I did not expect with such a back story was how incredibly sexual this book was going to be. Lucca is an Italian God and pure perfection. I love the way he spoke, the way he took care of Lexi and how he loved her. He always asked her, “May I have you or Can I have you Lexi” He asked this after he had already feasted on her. I was breathing heavy reading these scenes and had me yelling, “OH YES! YES, YOU CAN HAVE ME!” every time he asked. I couldn’t help myself! The sex is seriously amazing in this book.

The connection was instant and I believe fate had something to do with it. Lucca literally could not get enough of Lexi. It was if they would combust if they couldn’t touch each other as soon as possible whenever the need struck. This book is love instantly. I felt it from the first time their eyes met. He made me swoon throughout this entire book and I was extremely hot and bothered. I want a gifted a day with him…every day!

Every day, Lexi has to bear emotional and physical scars left from her horrible past. I warn you that some things are very difficult to handle, so be prepared. The author did a beautiful job giving the reader the hard while softening the blow to bring you past it. Each time the past came back to Lexi, my heart hurt a little more. She really has overcome so much and for the most part, has risen above her past and with the support from the great network of friends and family. Lexi is classy, polite and a true beauty inside and out. The entire book had an air of sophistication and there were words that I actually had to look up the definition to.

I really enjoyed this book. It has a great concept, character development and connection. The only issue with the story is that the story has an “instant love” feel that I feel toned down the believability of the story. The horrific childhood that Lexi went through and how closed off she was to relationships with me lead me to believe that she wouldn’t have went into Lucca’s arms and given herself and trusted him so easily. I wish the author would have been a little more gradual with Lexi trusting Lucca.

The writing is really superb. For a debut book by a new author, I am very impressed. The other characters in the book are fun people and the description of Tuscany is beautiful. I could almost feel the sun shining down on my face. The food she describes made my mouth water and the playlist that Lucca had was very diverse which fit beautifully into the story.

I had expected at some point her past would’ve come after Lexi, but it never did. It was teetering on the edge. I now know why. There is a second book coming and l ‘m so scared that all the light that Lucca has brought to Lexi is going to go dark. The author played this story well. She gave me the calm before the storm and I look forward to reading the next book L’amore.

“Okay, Lucca, maybe we will see you tomorrow if you are around,” Hazel says optimistically.

“Si, I will definitely be around, buona notte.”

“Nighty night.” Once she closes the door, Lucca and I remain silent but stare at one another.

“This is an appropriate room for you. True beauty,” he says, nodding towards the plaque on the door, and I blush. Lucca leans over me and palms my face in both hands. “Let me take care of you. I promise, not to hurt you. Please think about it.”

A promise is a promise.

I nod and he closes the space between us, enveloping my sense again with the scent of his aftershave: masculine, sexy, intoxicating. And those eyes …

Sweet Jesus.

My throat instinctively moves as I swallow, then I inhale a ragged breath when I think he’s about to kiss my lips. Instead, he places a chaste kiss on my forehead.

“Dormite bene, bella dolcezza.”

“Umm …?”

“Sleep tight, beautiful sweetness. That is what it means.”

“So, dolcezza means sweetness?” I ask while turning the handle.

“Si. And you most definitely are mine.”

I lean on the door for support, as my legs are defying gravity, ready to give way with his romantic words. When I turn around to say good night, he’s walking back down the corridor.

When I’m in my room, I kick off my shoes and lean against the door trying to get my head straight, overwhelmed with his charm, but also overwhelmed at myself for allowing myself to be affected.
