Party Girl by Rachel Hollis

Landon Brinkley’s dreams are all coming true. She’s landed an internship with the fabulous Selah Smith, event planner for the Hollywood elite, taking her from small-town Texas to the bright lights of LA. Landon soon finds herself in a world in which spending a million dollars on an event—even a child’s birthday party—is de rigueur and the whims of celebrity clients are life-and-death matters. At first, the thrill of working on A-list parties and celebrity weddings is enough to get Landon through the seventy-five-hour workweeks and endless abuse at the hands of her mercurial boss. But when the reality of the business reveals itself, she’s forced to make a choice: do whatever it takes to get ahead, or stay true to herself.

Drawing on the author’s real-life experiences as an event planner to the stars, Party Girl takes readers on an adventure among Hollywood’s most beautiful—and most outrageous—people, revealing the ugly side of Hollywood’s prettiest parties.

Review by Karla

If you follow Rachel Hollis on social media you know that she has a big personality that is high energy, full of vibrant colors, and chic items. She beautifully conveyed her charisma onto this sweet, funny, sassy, dashing story. Its The Wedding Planner meets The Devil Wears Prada. I literally was giddy the whole time while reading it!

Landon is a strong-willed, driven young woman just starting her career. She has dreamed most of her life in becoming an event planner. After earning her teaching degree, that her parents insisted she have as a back-up plan, she moves from Texas to California to work as an intern for a very prominent celebrity event planner, Selah Smith. Her goal is to learn as much as she can from her. Landon soon finds out that not all is a bed of roses. In her journey she befriends her roommate, reclusive Max Jennings, which underneath her standoffish persona is a sweet girl, and staff designer, Miko Jin. They bond with twilight references and coffee, easily becoming BFF’s. Landon goes through some tough times with little direction from her immediate supervisor McKenna. She questions if it’s worth stepping all over her principles and beliefs.  With a twist of events, Landon is pushed into the role of Selah’s personal assistant. Although her confidence falters a little, her determination to succeed and sweetness makes an impact on all who encounter her. She has a good moral foundation that makes you love her character, she can do no wrong.

Let’s not forget to mention Taylor and Brody, two equally handsome men. One is a playful country boy full of tattoos and a mischievous smile, and the other a successful, rich pretty boy. Which one of these men will captivate Landon’s heart? It’s a toss up, and it all comes down to whom she feels the pull of electricity, butterflies in your tummy! Love this installment! Can’t wait to start on Sweet Girl!

Rating Scale 4.5 stars

Hotness: It‘s a contemporary story, if you’re looking for sex scenes there are none. Landon’s character might be larger than life, but she is an innocent country girl, just like her momma raised her, living in a metropolis that has not consumed her yet.

Storyline: Loved the story line. It was definitely different from the erotica genre that I usually read. Party Girl is a refreshing story that kept me entertained, the giggles would not stop, my family keep looking at me as if I were a lunatic. I could not put the book down. It really surprised me.

Money Well Spent: I was fortunate to have met her at the Authors in the OC book signing. She is a new author to me and I’m so glad I purchased her book, I only wished I would have purchased the additional books too.

Alpha Male Scale: Although there are no sex scenes. Brody Ashton and Bennett Taylor absolutely convey alpha male hotness. I could not decide with one would be a better fit for her.

Would you recommend the book to your girlfriends?  I highly recommend this book. You will not regret it.

About the Author

rachel hollis

Rachel Hollis founded the LA-based event planning firm Chic Events at only 21. Six years later Inc. Magazine named her one of the Top 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30. She went on to turn Chic into the extremely popular lifestyle website The Chic where readers log in daily for the tips and tricks she acquired after years of planning fancy parties for celebrities!

She has designed and produced fabulous events for many of Hollywood’s elite including Bradley Cooper, Al Gore, Rashida Jones, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ivanka Trump, Jamie King, Sara Rue and Cuba Gooding Jr… just a name a few.

Rachel grew up in a big loud Okie family. Daddy was a Pentecostal minister and Mama was the church pianist… and PS, she knows the words to all the old-timey hymns in case you want to break into three-part harmony later.

She moved to Los Angeles to go to college and promptly met a boy named David who was as handsome as he was funny. First she made that boy her best friend, and then she made him my husband. 10 years later they have three equally handsome/hilarious little boys named Jackson, Sawyer, and Ford. They live in LA where they spend their time doing super cool/sexy things like going to soccer practice and hitting up any restaurant where kids eat free with the purchase of an adult entrée.
